Women's Track and Field Finishes 6th at GPAC; Carey Wins Pentathlon
(Sioux City, IA) - The women’s track and field team weekend began Friday at the GPAC Championships at Dordt University with the pentathlon. Continuing Saturday at the GPAC Championship with the rest of the team competing. As a team, Hastings took sixth out of 11 teams.

Sophomore Lucy Carey won the pentathlon with an overall score of 3393. She won the 60 meter hurdles, with a time of 9.12 and the long jump, with a jump of 5.27 meters. She had top five finishes in the rest of the events, making her all-conference.
On Saturday, senior Ava Brackhan finished first and hit the A-Standard for Nationals, set a new personal record, and a new meet record for the 3000 meter racewalk with a time of 16:12.87. Teammate Destini Johnson finished second with a B-Standard time of 17:49.29, naming them both all-conference.
Senior Jaida Rowe finished second in the 400m with an A-Standard time of 56.68, earning her all-conference. Rowe also placed third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.90, with sophomore teammate Ava Reese finishing fourth with a time of 9.08 and Carey in sixth at 9.27, as all three hurdlers earned all-conference.
Junior Grace Dow finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:23.03, making her all conference. Freshman Brooklyn Sutter also earned all-conference, placing seventh in the 1000m with a time of 3:07.59.
The women's 4x4 finished eighth with a time of 4:14.54 with sophomore Kamerin Turner, freshman Gianna Humphrey, freshman Samara Humphrey, and Sutter. The women's 4x8 finished 9th with a time of 11:09.62 with freshman Paige Faimon, freshman Claire Noerrlinger, senior Kathryn Columbus, and freshman Kate Baker.
In the field events, Carey was 11th (5.21m) in the long jump, freshman Gianna Humphrey was 16th (1.46m) in the high jump, and senior Trinity Doublin was 16th (10.61m) in the triple jump.
In the shot put, freshman Katelyn Strampher placed 11th with a throw of 11.99m and freshman Mattilynn Schroeder was 14th at 11.44m.
Up next, those who qualified for Nationals will compete at the NAIA Indoor Championships on Mar. 5-7.
