Women's Track and Field Places 8th at GPAC Championships
(Fremont, NE) – The Hastings Broncos competed on day two of the GPAC Championships on Saturday, finishing eighth out of 12 teams (36 points). The top eight individuals and top three relays in each event received All-GPAC honors, with Hastings finishing with eight recipients.

Senior Ava Brackhan won the 5000m race walk with a 'B'-Standard time of 28:25.95, setting a personal best and marking the second best time in school history, surpassing sophomore teammate Destini Johnson, who also had a personal best 'B'-Standard time of 28:46.74 to take second. Senior Mikayla Seebohm was third in the race at 33:21.83.
Senior Jaida Rowe was second in the 100m hurdle prelims with an 'A'-Standard time of 13.91, tying her school record. Sophomores Ava Reese and Lucy Carey were fourth and seventh in the event at 14.48 and 14.76 to qualify for the finals, while senior Kathryn Columbus was 22nd at 17.38. Rowe crushed her school record time in the finals at 13.75, finishing in second. Reese was fourth at 14.53 and Carey was seventh at 15.06 in the finals.
In the heptathlon, sophomore Lucy Carey finished second with 4444 points. She won the 100m hurdles at 14.67 and long jump (4.96). She was third in the high jump (1.52m), fourth in the 200m (26.58) and 800m (2:29.92), sixth in the javelin (28.73), and 10th in the shot put (9.12m).
Sophomore Ellie Lloyd was sixth in the javelin with a top throw of 37.00m and was 19th in the discus at 35.45m. In the 1500m, freshman Brooklyn Sutter also ran a personal best of 4:42.96 to place fourth, marking the third best time in school history.
The 4x100m relay team of Reese, freshman Gianna Humphrey, freshman Samara Humphrey, and Rowe placed sixth in the race at 47.85. The 4x800m relay team of G. Humphrey, freshman Brooklyn Sutter, freshman Paige Faimon, and junior Grace Dow placed seventh with a time of 9:56.48.
The 4x400m relay team of Carey, Dow, Sutter, and G. Humphrey placed ninth with a time of 4:11.16. Dow took 12th in the 800m at 2:23.19, while G. Humphrey placed 15th in the 100m prelims at 12.55.
Other results in field events included freshman Mattilynn Schroeder, who was 11th in the shot put at 11.73m, and senior Trinity Doublin, who was 20th in the triple jump at 9.79m.
Up next, Hastings will compete at the Concordia Twilight meet at 12pm on Friday, May 8.
