Rowe Captures National Title in 400m Hurdles, Adds All-American Honor in 100m Hurdles
(Asheville, NC) – On the third and final day of the NAIA Championships on Friday, senior Jaida Rowe (400m hurdles) became the first Bronco to win an outdoor NAIA Championship since 2022, and the first Hastings track athlete to win an outdoor NAIA title since 2002. Rowe also captured second place in the 100m hurdles to join senior Ava Brackhan as an All-American.
(Asheville, NC) – On the third and final day of the NAIA Championships on Friday, senior Jaida Rowe (400m hurdles) became the first Bronco to win an outdoor NAIA Championship since 2022, and the first Hastings track athlete to win an outdoor NAIA title since 2002. Rowe also captured second place in the 100m hurdles to join senior Ava Brackhan as an All-American. Hastings finished 16th out of 84 teams.
Rowe came from behind late in her 400m hurdle final victory, trailing Concordia's Adrianna Rodencal by about 15 meters with 50 meters left, winning the race by two hundredths of a second at 57.96.
About 45 minutes before the 400m hurdle final, Rowe became an All-American in the 100m hurdle final, finishing with a time of 13.69 – a new school record and just .12 seconds behind Rodencal. Rowe ends her decorated career as a three-time All-American in the 400m hurdles outdoors, as well as an All-American in the outdoor 100m hurdles and indoor 400m.
Also competing on Friday, sophomore Ellie Lloyd placed 20th in the javelin final with a top throw of 38.81 on Friday.
In the 5000m race walk on Thursday, senior Ava Brackhan placed eighth to become an All-American with a personal time of 27:48.83, marking the second-best time in school history. Sophomore teammate Destini Johnson was 11th at 29:52.69, while senior Mikayla Seebohm placed 15th at 31:13.14.
On Wednesday, Rowe won her 400m hurdle prelim heat and had the best time overall, crossing the finish line at 58.02 to advance to the finals. Rowe was second in her 100m hurdles heat at 13.78 on Thursday, placing fifth overall to advance to the 100m hurdle finals.
In the heptathlon on Wednesday, sophomore Lucy Carey was 14th after day one with 2745 points through four of the seven events. She was ninth in the 100m hurdles (14.93) and high jump (1.54m), 11th in the shot put (9.52), and 14th in the 200m (26.78).
After the final three events of the heptathlon on Thursday, Carey finished in 12th place in the overall standings with a personal-best point total of 4503, ranking fifth In school history. She was seventh in the 800m (2:27.15), 10th in the high jump (5.17m), and 13th in javelin (27.15m) in the events on Thursday.
Freshman Brooklyn Sutter placed 15th in the 1500m prelims on Wednesday, finishing with a time of 4:44.53, five seconds off a qualifying time for the finals.
Hastings wraps up their 2025-26 season and will begin making preparations for next season.
